Nordic Re-Finance expands to the Hungarian Market with lease of class ME

The Sweden based locomotives leasing company Nordic Re-Finance continues its expansion further south. After entering the Danish market 2022 and the Polish 2023 next country will be Hungary. The Hungarian state owned MAV Rail Tours will long term lease two class ME locomotives from Nordic Re-Finance, from which the first locomotive ME-1517 was delivered July 27th. While it will be the first class ME in Hungary, the country has a history of the Nohab predecessors which are quite similar to the Henchel manufactured ME locomotive.

Chairman of the Board and CEO of Nordic Re-Finance Sven Engquist states:
-Class ME is a very versatile fleet and a great option to purchase new heavy diesel locomotives. Since we overtook the fleet from DSB the locomotives has been used mainly for freight operation, but the potential to use it for passenger traffic is wide and Hungary is a great market which we look forward to examine additionally.

Managing director of MAV Rail Tours Norbert Schvéd is very excited about the new fleet:
-The class ME will be a great addition to our expanding passenger traffic. The first locomotive will of course go straight to workshop for installing the Hungarian train control system and of course paint it in MAV livery. We have already started the approval process towards the NSA and look forward to have the locomotive in passenger service as quick as possible.

Nordic Re-Finance is a rolling stock leasing company with a fleet of 161 railway vehicles, of which 154 are locomotives. Hungary will be the 6th country with presence from Nordic Re-Finance, the company is already active in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Poland and Switzerland.
